Gaming Companies Fail to Protect
Women Gamers from Harassment
Omnia Qalaoun — Egypt
Despite public promises, many gaming companies continue
to fail women facing harassment both in-game and at work.
High-profile cases at Activision Blizzard, Sony, and Ubisoft
exposed cultures of sexism, weak reporting systems, and inconsistent enforcement. Women often fear retaliation, lack
confidential support, while witnessing perpetrators escape
consequences. This forces many to leave gaming altogether.
Even though some firms have introduced new policies or legal
measures, real change requires independent reporting channels, stronger enforcement, cultural shifts, and leadership accountability. Without these, harassment remains normalized,
silencing women and driving talent out of the industry.
